Five question Friday

1. Can you drive a stick shift?
I can! Garrett drives a stick and had to give me a refresher course so I could drive his car, when he got his new car I was hoping he'd go automatic...but he didn't...

I much better at it when I'm driving alone, I get so nervous with someone else in the car!

2. What are two foods you just can't eat?
Shrimp - and if you give me a hard time about it I'll start talking about how you might as well be eating a cockroach with every hope that it ruins your dining experience. I.hate.shrimp!

Coconut - there are no words for the disgustingness that is the food you just keep chewing.

3. Do you buy Girl Scout Cookies? What is your favorite kind?
I'm avoiding those girls like the plague this year! I love me some Thinmints and Do-si-dos!

This year I did buy some Samoas from Olivia. I won't touch them with a ten foot pole because of the coconut but they are G's favorite! It seemed like a win-win supporting O and avoiding calories for me!

4. How do you pamper yourself?
I love manicures (way better than pedicures) and I get one or both of those occasionally. I think getting my hair done takes waaaay too long so that's not very much pampering as much as please hurry up and get this done. I've had a massage or two but nothing life changing. I'm actually not very good at relaxing or being pampered...

5. What is your nickname and how did you get it?
I've always wanted a nickname, I think it's such a fun idea, but I never really had one. In high school a friend of mine and I decided I should go by Skillet (I have no idea why!) but it didn't really stick.

When Garrett and I were dating in college I decided we should have nicknames for each other and came up with Pookie and Snookums (maybe). Pookie stuck around and Garrett still calls me some form of Pookie (it's okay you can gag) right now it's Pookstah. We are both always changing it up one of my favorites is Pookaburra as in Pookaburra sits in the old gum tree...

A few friends call me Shlee or Shleebee.

Have a great weekend!!

There has been a bug flying around my office all week.

Monday - I tried to swat him when he came near me. He stopped coming close. I thought he was gone.

Tuesday - He was still keeping his distance and wasn't much of a bother. I guess he remembered the swatting.

Wednesday - He landed on my jeans and he was so small and kind of cute I felt bad for him and thought he was probably hungry and thirsty. I tried to stand up and walk outside with him. He got scared and got away from me. I told him not to be scared I didn't want to squish him I just wanted him to be able to find some food.

Today - he's flying all around me and I keep trying to get him to land on some kind of paper or something so I can take him outside. He's having none of it but he's being very brave and flying in front of my computer screen every once in a while. So I know he's still here?

I really don't like bugs. I rather they stay outside and away from me. I can't help but feel sorry for them when they are out of their element (except flies, I hate all flies and their evil little hands rubbing together like they are plotting). I start thinking about their little bug families. It's ridiculous how much time I've spent in the last two days devising a plan to get him outside.

He kind of looks like this.
Only he is very, very small.
I wonder if he's a baby?
I think I'll call him Lawrence.

Remember the spider? I think about him sometimes.

There is only one OKLAHOMA!

Kelly over at Kelly's Korner Blog is hosting show us your Alma Maters and if you've been around here very long you know that I love mine!

I moved from Florida to attend the University of Oklahoma and even though most people thought I was crazy...

So, I left my beautiful coastal state for a landlocked one with winters. Sometimes in March when it's still cold here and my friends that stayed in Florida are enjoying the beach I occasionally have a fleeting moment of thinking I am crazy. In the end I am pretty sure it is the football that won me over!

The tradition, the passion, (the winning!) I love it all!

I think our campus is one of the prettiest there is (and I've been to a lot of campuses)! I love that in the Student Union the walls are lined with framed photographs of past and current students, it really gives it that family feel that President Boren was going for. While athletics (football) is a huge part of the University, they really strive to make sure that academics are equally as important (I should know I had 9 majors all in different departments)

Every year I travel to a few away games, this year I went to my first ever bowl game (and I guess I was the lucky charm they needed because we won!)

Last summer we even got the chance to head up to Omaha for the College World Series!
(don't worry we ended up winning this game!)

The experiences I've had and the people I've met from OU are amazing, so on those cold winter days with no ocean in sight I know that I made the right decision when I decided to come to The University of Oklahoma!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Single or attached I’ve never cared much about Valentine’s Day. I mean I’ll never pass up a reason to get give presents but, I have no desire to go out to dinner the same night every other couple on the planet goes out, and I don’t really care that much about flowers (and I say just wait until the price goes down if you just really, really want to send some, spontaneity is more romantic anyway!)

loved2

I loved Valentine’s Day in elementary school! A party and “mail” what’s not to love! I loved Valentine’s Day in high school because we had those quizzes we took and sent off to some company that would tell us who we were compatible with you bought one with your results for the people in your grade and one for the rest of the grades, I looked forward to that every year! (did you do those?) We had the candygrams too and it was always fun to get a surprise in the middle of class (but I usually felt a little bit guilty if someone sent me one and I didn’t send them one too!

loved

I have some really bad Valentine’s Day stories too, one goes like this: In high school my mom was engaged to my friends dad, my friend’s birthday is Valentine’s Day. Every year her dad would get buy her the same number roses as the age she was. One year he took me with him to order the roses, and the trip went like this…he bought roses for the birthday girl, roses for her sister, roses for my mom, roses for his mom, roses for his niece, and roses for his sister-in-law. That was it. When February 14th rolled around I thought for sure he’d surprise me and have gotten some for me too. But….nope I got none. It made me feel pretty crappy*.

Valentine's Day

Tonight I’m celebrating by taking a test, which overall is pretty sucky because exactly two months ago (ON MY BIRTHDAY) I was also taking a test, a final none-the-less. oh well. I also am currently enjoying my standing Monday night date with Panera and there are waaay less people here than normal (I guess no one wants to go to dinner at Panera for Valentine’s.) so that’s nice. Except I have no desire to the last minute studying I intended to do!

VDAY

I hope that no matter if you are in a relationship or not someone made you feel extra special today! Because everyone deserves a little extra reminder that they are loved!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

* The friend who this story refers to does not read my blog, but if she ever happens upon this post I want her to know I harbor no hard feelings for this incident….your dad did so many great things for me (and even more so for my brother and sister) I appreciate it all very much!  And I think you are great!!

There’s no iron deficiency around here…

In Oklahoma we believe the weatherman when he says we’re going to have a blizzard…we run to the store and stock up on essentials…

In Florida we run out of water before a hurricane, in Oklahoma they run out of red meat before a snow!

Snow Away!

I think yesterday should be our last snow day of this Winter *fingers crossed* while I enjoy a day off as much as the next guy, being snowed in isn’t as much fun when you don’t have anyone to play in the snow with!

At least this time it was real life snow, usually around here we get ice days. :)

Kuddles was less than impressed with the snow. She couldn’t find the grass and it was cold and windy and she was just annoyed.

2011 033

She wouldn’t even pose for pictures, she’d just run back to the door and beg to go back inside. She couldn’t walk many places because the snow was so high, luckily we live in Oklahoma so the wind blows so hard there were areas that the snow was lower and she could walk.

2011 036

Most places were more like this, up almost to my knees! Which is why I stayed inside where it was warm and I had plenty of Netflix to keep me entertained!

2011 037

I finally let her go back inside and when I came in from shoveling Kuddles was trying to be warm, and giving me the evil eye!

2011 038

This was last Friday, by then she’d gotten a little more daring in her adventures. But, the cold was just too much for her and after a few minutes of being outside she would start picking up her paws and looking at them and making the most pathetic crying sound until I picked her up took her inside and dried off her paws. So sad!

2011 040

Here’s my running path, you can’t even see the track. I cannot wait to start running outside again. I miss it, the treadmill and I are just not really friends!

I heard a rumor that next Thursday it’s supposed to get up to 76 degrees…I hope it’s the truth…Spring I miss you, come visit soon! Then Summer you can come too, I never complain about your hot days, I never wish for cooler weather (because when you do, this is what you get!). Spring and Summer I love you guys!

Guilty Pleasure

Every Monday I have a standing date…with Panera. I don’t have class until 7:30 but there just isn’t enough time to go home so I head to Panera with my trusty laptop and kill a couple of hours. Sometimes I study, sometimes I blog, but I always eat! Yum!

Today I’m trying to watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but it got interrupted so I thought I’d check in here. :)

I cannot even tell you how embarrassed I was when it first started playing it and people started walking by looking at my screen. But, I decided if they know what it is then they obviously have the same guilty pleasure. So I stopped worrying about it and was just enjoying the show! :)

I don’t know how I missed  this show, it’s like Degrassi meets 7th Heaven with a splash of Teen Mom! Perfect!

What’s your favorite Guilty Pleasure?
