Movie Monday.

It's that day of the week again I'll let you know what movies I watched last week and what I thought about them.

In no particular order here they are:

At the beginning of Surrogates I really thought the movie had potential it was a new idea, it could have been a good movie. I thought to myself I sure hope this isn't one of those movies where the robots get minds of their own and attack the humans, good news it's not. But, I was still able to predict what was going to happen in parts, so I would call it a little predictable. It was a new idea but it was kind of silly. I like Bruce Willis but the other actors did not do such a great job acting. I don't have anything insightful to say about this movie, it was rather blah, just a movie. It's worth renting, but you might want to use your free rental.

I went into to this movie with the expectation that the movie wasn't going to be as good as the book. However, I was super, super disappointed with The Lovely Bones, but show me a book that Hollywood hasn't ruined. I l-o-v-e love this book, like it might be my favorite book ever, it is top 10 for sure. I know that Hollywood ruins all the books I love. (Harry Potter, My Sister's Keeper, don't even get me started on The Cat in the Hat) I hadn't read LB in awhile so the details weren't fresh in my mind, but my favorite part (a rather LARGE part) of the book was mostly left out, and when they did touch on it, it was wrong. Completely changed they made something wonderful into something kooky and ridiculous. They really didn't put the focus where it should have been. Seriously did Peter Jackson even read the book? Garrett went and watched it with me and having never read the book he was also let down, n0t because they ruined a good book, but because he really wanted it to be more of a investigative movie, or at least that we hadn't known who the killer was from the getgo. IMHO the problem with this movie was there was no focus.
As much as it pains me to say this It's not even a renter.


Edge of Darkness. We've all seen this movie before, probably even starring Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson stays true to form avenging the death of a loved one. The story wasn't new, the characters weren't new but, they did the same old thing well. I would say this one is a renter mainly so you can put on your closed captioning to understand what is going on, there was one character that unintelligible.

Movie Monday.

Here is a review of the movies I watched this week:

I'm a George Clooney fan. I was not an Up in the Air fan. But, it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen. I found it to be a little predictable. (even the parts that were meant to be unpredictable). It was kind of a fun story, it is LOOSELY based on a real guy and that's kind of neat.
It is NOT worth theater prices, it's a renter.

In all reality this movie deserves a post all of it's own.
And at some point I'll probably do one.

I am not a believer in propaganda movies, but since this is a subject I've done lots of my own research on I agreed to watch it. After watching it late Friday night (and not falling asleep) I watched it again Saturday (and I'll probably watch it with Grammy before I return it). It was that good. The first thing that I really, really liked about this movie is that there were not horrible graphic pictures of the animals, I cannot handle that and don't want to see it. The other great thing about this movie is it really touches on every food subject that should be covered (imho) it isn't just about meat, or corn. It talks about everything. I am already in the process of changing how I eat and this movie has really sealed the deal. If we spent as much time and energy on worrying about the CRAP that we put into our bodies as we did on (the fake phenomenon) Global Warming we could be well on the way to better, healthier eating.

Rent this movie, watch it now.

I thought Beyond a Resonable Doubt was right up my alley. I love a good lawyer/court/jury movie. This was NOT one of those. It was SUPER predictable (even though Garrett says it's easier for me to predict movies because I watch so many). The acting wasn't all that good and Amber Tamblyn talks funny, which is annoying. This movie is a little bit silly, so wait until it makes it to the middle section at Blockbuster and rent it for $1.99 it is so not worth $4.99.


Daybreakers was one of The Worst movies I have ever seen. It was horrible. I'm gonna go ahead and put it on the top 25 worst movies EVER in the history of the universe list. We almost walked out, and we NEVER walk out of movies. It was really super gory and bloody for no reason. And the story line was not worth watching. The vampire's name was Edward, they couldn't think of anything better? Are all vampires named Edward? What were they thinking? Please do not waste your time watching this. Even if someone gives it to you for free, don't watch it just pass it on to an enemy or something.

It's Complicated.

Saturday night we went and saw It's Complicated. I had heard lots of good things about it from the powers that be on the internet. Everyone raved about how funny it was. With star studded cast Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin I thought it was sure to be good. A chick flick romantic comedy, but sometimes those are right up my alley.

There is nothing complicated about it. It's just not funny!

I do not agree with the Internets. This movie was not funny. People laughed a lot in the theater. I commented that it sounded like a laugh track, Garrett thought that a laugh track would have been better because it would have tried to laugh at funny parts. Seriously it was like "look at this sandwich" then everyone died laughing. Not. funny. I think we laughed twice each. When no one else was laughing. of course.

Garrett thought that it was an older woman chick flick. Maybe he was right. But, I just don't see it. My personal opinion is that people say it's funny because other people were laughing in the theater and they don't want to feel left out. Maybe I'm biased because I have my own complicated relationships (two of them) that are WAY more entertaining than this movie. Hey Hollywood wanna make people really laugh? Come write down the things that happen in my life. That's complicated. (and probably too unbelievable for anyone to believe)

I have seen Sherlock Holmes and Avatar as well and they both get great reviews from me. Go spend your money on those to and if you must see It's Complicated, RENT IT!

Thanksgiving 09

Last Thanksgiving was hard, but not as hard as the Thanksgiving before that. Thanksgiving 2009 was good. And for that I am so very thankful. There was WAY more food than any 25 people could eat. But, we are getting it figured out and it isn't so bad! Aunt Marie brought popcorn balls. Be Still My Heart. And I was taken back to being 5 and on the farm. It was a good time with my family.

After all of the festivities ended I went to see The Road with Garrett and it was really good. But, oh so sad. I cried and cried, not the pretty kind either. The blubbering messy kind of crying. The movie stated at 12:35am and there were four of us in there. I was the only girl. I don't think anyone else cried.

life update

I've been busy,

Thursday my car was still in the shop but Garrett wanted to see a movie, so like any good bestie he came and picked me up (it's about 45 minutes between our houses, and the movie theater is in the middle). He stopped on the way to me and got the tickets for the midnight showing of Paranormal Activity! I was so excited because I had been wanting to see the movie forever and had even thought about driving to Dallas to see it. Sadly, by the time we got to the movie theater it was packed (fall break) and we decided to go see Law Abiding Citizen so that we could sit next to each other and not by some random strangers.Law Abiding Citizen was not good. It was improbable and just not the best movie I've ever seen. For sure don't waste movie theater prices on it.


Friday I took Garrett to work so that I could use his car (and did really well in the stick shift by myself!) I drove up to my cousin's house and got the keys and instructions on how to operate the house while they are on a wonderful cruise for their anniversary! Went to Panera and caught up on some stuff.

After Garrett finished working I picked him up and we got lunch at a new place Tuscany Pizza, they were SO not friendly. The food was good but their lack of personality will probably keep us from patronizing their establishment in the future! We took our Gyros (yes we got Gyros from a pizza place) and ate them at Garrett's parents new house. Eventually, G took me to get my car. (YAY!) We played a bit of basketball - Read Garrett played and I rebounded chased the ball for him.

Saturday morning I got up extra early and headed down to watch the OU-texas game in Norman. We went and got some stuff to grill during the game, corn on the cob! My fave! (while we were at the grocery we heard a song, an 80s song and we have been feverishly trying to figure out the name of it, it's just we don't know any of the words...the tune is a little fuzzy at this point, but we are trying! seriously how do you find a song when you think maybe it says wing and anything in it but even that is uncertain!) We sadly watched as our beloved Sammy got reinjured and our SOONERS lost. It was sad but really they played well and I don't think we can be too disappointed in the game. Disappointed in the season for sure but not one individual game.
Sometimes that's hard when the SOONERS are your identity. We are working on that! Looking to get our sense of accomplishment from something other than a college football team! :)

After the game I band all college football from the house (bold of me since boys live there) but I just couldn't deal with it (too bad we missed some good ones). Instead we watched...For hours! Good thing on the weekends they play movie after corny movie! ha!

Eventually, I think Garrett got tired of Lifetime (seriously I don't know why I mean there was a brand new movie on!!) And suggested we go see a movie, first we had some Johnny's for dinner! yummy! Then we headed to the movie theater and saw it!

It was AWESOME!
It was really, really good! Very Scary but not gory at all! I was so happy I hadn't watched any of the previews. I loved it! After watching it for a bit I did lean over to Garrett and inform him there was no way on God's green Earth I was sleeping alone that night! I reminded him of that several times during the movie. My only one complaint is I so wish it would have been longer!

After the movie Garrett had to come to my cousin's house to spend the night (so sweet!) Poor Brent watched the movie too (not with us) and had to go sleep alone since I took Garrett!

Sunday we woke up and headed down to Norman, we watched some NFL (to make up for the lack of college the day before?) I just love watching Adrian Peterson! He is just so amazing. Plus, we were practically BFF in college! :)

Then we headed to La Baguette (my fave!) for a (very) late brunch! I was hungry and a little bit grumpy, but Garrett should know by now to feed me earlier!) It was so yummy! After brunch (people it was like 4:00pm, that is linner!) we decided to go see Paranormal Activity again (we really loved it!) G called his parents and asked them to watch it with us, because we thought it would be fun to see it with someone who hadn't!

Garrett's Mom got motion sick, and had to leave the theater (there was someone throwing up outside the door ew!) but his dad really liked the movie! After the movie we picked up Papa Murphy's (my fave!) and headed to the rents house to watch Mad Men and chat. It was fun. G's parents are so sweet. But, let's be honest I do feel a bit awkward around them, I am after all his ex girlfriend. And we did not have the best breakup (or relationship for that matter) in the world. But maybe we have all gotten over that?

On the way home traffic was horrible because of the U2 concert, but on the way home I was following the band to the airport! how fun is that! there were like at least 12 cop cars! so fun!

In the interest of your sanity and time, I will stop this post here. I have watched 3 more movies recently that I would like to go over because it's been awhile since I've done that and I've been watching a bunch of movies again!

Angels & Demons

It's been awhile since I've done a movie post. I feel like it had been forever since I'd been to the actual Movie Theater. (that's what happens when you don't have to be secret friends with someone and only see each other at the central movie theater, but that's a WHOLE different post).

The movie was good. I didn't see The Da Vinci Code or read either of the books so I have nothing to base my opinion on. The plot twists were nice (because I like to be surprised) sadly they were laid out for you to clearly read, even if you never took an AP English class. I mean really I was surprised there wasn't a neon sign at one point that flashed "This is FORESHADOWING". I at one point wished that I could have discussed this instead of Walden, (the train means he's lonely, I still think maybe he just heard a train, but what do I know). I did find myself a little frustrated at the characters and their lack of ability to get things accomplished in what I consider to be a timely manner. But, nothing to bad. Robert Langdon was not your normal crime fighter, he didn't hit or shoot anyone the entire movie, and mostly just ran away from danger. I could have lived without the female character she had very little purpose in my mind. I was truly offended that they killed off one particular character. But, I'm sure I'll get over it. We watched the movie at the Warren Theater and my favorite thing about that theater is the Neon Clocks they put on the wall. Not only was it nice since this movie was SO long (and I really had to use the restroom, it was nice to know exactly how long I'd have to wait) but it also helped me predict the plot of the movie a little better.

My favorite quote of the movie was when Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) said "Faith is a gift I've yet to receive."

weekend

I had a good busy weekend.

Friday I went to the OU men's basketball game, they looked good and won very conviningly.

Saturday was freezing! I started the morning bundled up at Blaine's playoff football game. They won! Yay! I was busy trying to recruit the kids and letting them know if they keep up the hard work they'll be getting college scholarships before they know it. Tonight is the final game, I'll let you know how it goes. After the football game I headed to the OU women's basketball game they also looked good and won, it was fun to see two number 1 draft picks in two days!! After that I headed off to hang out with a friend and watch the second season of Dexter, we finished that up and I'm so excited for the third season to come out on DVD (we both agree tv is way better on dvd).

Sunday, wasn't too busy slept in, watched a bit of football, ate Mexican for lunch, had a margarita, yummy! And went and saw Changling, I am not a fan of Angelina Jolie in fact I don't like her one bit (but it was the only movie at the theater we hadn't see that wasn't rated G) The movie was pretty good. A little sad, but kinda cool it was based on truth.

Yesterday on the way home from work I was thinking about a funny blog I was going to post today to make up for last Friday's kinda-deep-right-before-the-weekend blog. I can't for the life of me remember what it was going to be about. Dang it. I hate that. Maybe I'll remember at a later date and you'll get it.

So, I'll just let you know I saw Quantum of Solace last night. It was so not as good as Casino Royale. boo! But, it was fun to watch it at 12:01!!! I think I'm still a fan of James Bond though. He's pretty cool....

Here is a review of the movies I've seen this week. In no real order....

House.

The best part of this movie was the review we read before going to see it "House is AWESOME!!!!!" It is now our understanding that the girl who wrote this review was talking about the tv show House MD. I mean if you've seen everything else in the theater and you enjoy scary movies you might as well check it out. But, don't expect to understand what is going on. It was confusing and not easy to follow at all. I did jump in fear a few times and there were some good quotable lines.


Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
This is was your typical comedy of this stature. There were some really funny parts, some really stupid parts and a couple of really gross parts. It follows the exact plot line you would expect it to. I'm a fan of Elizabeth Banks, I think she's really cute and would probably watch just about anything with her in it. It's not as raunchy as you might expect but please don't take your small children to see it...

Role Models.

Role Modles was funny the same kind of funny as Zack and Miri, it follows your typical "teenage comedy" plot. So, if you're looking for a good laugh from a predictable movie with some dirty jokes thrown in this is your movie. I do have one complaint about this movie. If you watched the previews then you pretty much saw the whole movie. Elizabeth Banks is in this one too!

My personal opinion on current comedies in the theaters, if you're only going to see one I'd go see Sex Drive. But I did watch Zack and Miri and Role Models in the same day so maybe it was a little too much. Hopefully, there will be some new scary movies coming out soon.

Before this weekend I have prided myself on having never seen a James Bond movie or a Star Wars movie (used to have Batman on that list). Casino Royale was good enough that I checked into seeing Quantum of Solace tonight at the Midnight showing. For me the whole movie was worth the opening scene that was so unbelievably ridiculous I couldn't stop watching. Apparently, Bond movies are known for these and I'll be seeing the next one mostly for the opening. Also, it was a good mix of predictable and unexpected. I was sometimes a little bit bored and being able to predict what will happen next is a favorite of mine.

Born on the Fourth of July.

My review for this one is going to be short seeing is I kept falling asleep and having to pretend I knew what was going on. I'm fairly certain this is a propaganda movie but my friend really wanted me to watch it. We eventually turned it off so I could sleep and I have no idea how it ends (I have to watch to find out....blah) So, I guess I'll be renting this one again.

(Please note at this point I think there are only two movies left playing in theaters I haven't seen, that's what Friday's are good for...new movies!!)

I really don't have too much to say. But, I hate to leave my blog untouched for too long.

Last night I saw The Haunting of Molly Hartley. It ends pretty dumb. It could have been way better. But, oh well. I was scared once maybe even twice.

I walked around down town OKC and there were gun shots? Turns out they do that to scare the birds away? WHAT?!? I was not a fan.

I'm looking forward to this weekend! College football is my one true love!! So, here's hoping for a good week!!

no id, no movie.

So, last night I went to the movies with my friend. I had on no makeup and my hair was in a pony tail. I didn't look bad, but I wasn't trying to impress anyone either. So, we picked a movie and he went to buy the tickets. I was basking in the heaters they have (it made me feel like I was in Florida.) I walked up and the ticket man said "I don't think they'll let you in without your ID." It was the really strict guy that always makes us show both of our student ids to get the discount. So, I just kind of stared blankly at him, really? It's been several years since I was IDed for an R rated movie. He said yesterday they weren't letting people that were too young in to see it. WHAT? I couldn't even form a complete thought. Do I look like I'm 16 years old? Do I? Friend was like come on, it's okay, no big deal. But, of course I didn't have my driver's license because I move it for football games and forgot to put it back where it belongs. He said come on let's go in and see what happens. So, we walk up to the ticket-taker lady and I said, I don't have my ID I want to see Saw and I'm almost 26 years old. She said "no way" "I really am". I said he has his ID and actually I'm 9 days older than him, meanwhile he is reciting our date of births to the nice lady. She said I have to see this I don't believe it. Friend handed over his ID and she studied it, like people do when I buy alcohol and they think it for sure must be fake. Next step call people over and say how old do you think they are, oh how I love that game. I win every time. Of course the best comment was "well I can see it with him but for her no way" People to not get into an R rated movie I'd have to be 16, don't we think there is a bigger problem than trying to see this movie if I'm at the movies with some 26 year old guy? Then comes the you're so luckys, someday I'm sure it will make me feel lucky. They did let us both in the movie.



Also, said friend ripped his pants and was trying to hide it. I had to go to the car and get him different ones, so I was walking around with pants (not showing my ticket stub because everyone knows me now.) and he lost his phone the night before at the movies and we were searching the theater for that. We were at the movie over an hour early and were sitting talking in the lobby (that's normal for us, we don't check movie times, we just show up and see whatever fits) Needless to say after last nights adventures I think we might have to find another theater....

Trivia Tuesday

Did you know that today in 1962 The Jetson's made their first TV appearance? The show was aired on Sunday nights until March 3, 1963. Originally there were only 24 episodes, in 1985 due to the shows continued popularity more episodes where made.

I hit my snooze 8 time this morning, I'm pretty sure that the extra 48 minutes of sleep I got was not good quality sleep, and I should have just gotten out of bed the first time. oh well. I think I'll be going to bed early this night.

This weekend I watched lots of football, sadly OU had a BYE week, sad for me but good for Marcus to heal, he was attacked by Washington's football players after getting a much deserved personal foul last week, the retaliation was not needed. Hopefully, he'll be back and ready to play against TCU. There were lots of other good games on to keep me entertained.

Sunday I did not get the BUCS game again, boo! I did get to watch the Dallas Cowboys, who did not look great, but they won, so good for them! I hope Roy Williams gets better soon and can get back on the field!

Great weekend...

Let me start with movie reviews of the movies that were watched...

Cold Mountain. This was a GREAT movie. It did make me cry, and since it was the last one watched it left me wanting a comedy. But, if you haven't seen it I would say watch it!

The Departed was another really good movie. I would have changed the end of it. But, no one asked me! How can you not love a movie with Jack Nicholson? I love that guy!

The Babysitters was kinda weird and a little bit creepy. It was well written and well acted but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. I know I kind of went to bed with a disturbed feeling after watching it!

Tropic Thunder imo is NOT the best comedy of the year. Having said that it wasn't terrible. I laughed quite a bit. And I always like a star studded cast, and it makes it funny when the stars are making fun of their own industry. I would say watch it, but maybe not in the expensive theater.

So, I woke up Saturday morning (at a friends apartment) thinking that the apartment was going to fall over. There was a really loud noise and the whole apartment shook, however, I was asleep after a late night so after opening my eyes looking around and seeing nothing worth noting. I closed my eyes and attempted to go back to sleep. Thinking if the apartment fell over at least we were on the top floor so I probably wouldn't be squished to death. Shortly after the earthquake/explosion. My friend came in picked up my cell phone and started dialing it. I said hey that's my phone who are you calling. The response was 911, someone is going to get hurt. WHAT is this some kind of dream? I guess the people in the apartment next door were in a huge fight throwing things screaming threatening to kill one another and slamming doors. My friend explained what was going on to the 911 operator and then went outside to let the cops know where to go, to avoid having them knock on the door. And making it obvious who called. It had settled down by the time the arrived and I guess the people had calmed down because no one was taken away or anything. My heart broke for them both, and I resisted the urge to go over there and talk to them both and let them know that kind of fighting is NOT healthy. Probably wouldn't have to listed to me anyway.

Other than that my weekend was very uneventful just fun times with old friends that is coming to an end. I'm a little bit sad about that. But, we'll see how it works out.
