christie's first day of school recap she sent me...
today is the first day of school. i went to the opening ceremony where all 750-something students assembled, as well as the 50 or so teachers. there is a new principal this year, but she was a teacher at this school for many years. it was all in hungarian, obviously, but i was sitting by some other english teacher and she translated the main ideas of what the principal was saying. i was grateful to have her translating except that i`ve never smelled such nasty breath in all my life. she was whispering, too, so that was very very unacceptable. they introduced all the new teachers, there are 13 of us, and presented us with roses. everyones was yellow except mine was pink. weird. the nasty breath lady said its because im speceial. yeah i am.
the other day my contact teacher, laci, showed me around the school. there were no kids here and we saw most of the school. today some lady, krisztina, showed me i think every square inch of the school and there were kids everywhere. it was more than i cared to see but she likes telling about everything. also, i got here today at 730 am and she showed me around for 90 minutes so i am drained. i need breakfast or lunch or something.
xander is home alone, but he seems to be getting used to the apartment now. he doesnt bark at every gust of wind or voice outside. i am not teaching on mondays, including today, so i am going home to hang out with him. i havent really explored the town yet but it is surely on my list of things to do when there is nothing to do. i got my schedule (or timetable as they call it) and my earliest class is at 915. i, of course, am thrilled with that since the kids` earliest class is 730. woohoo for me! plus mondays off means three day weekends ... always.
